Linked Fields: Automatically Update Contact Details from Onboarding
What are Linked Fields?
Linked Fields let you connect an input in your onboarding step template to an internal contact field in WorkZerk. When an onboardee completes that step during their onboarding, the value they enter is automatically saved to their contact record — no manual data entry required.
For example, you could link a "What is your bank name?" step to the Bank Name contact field. When the onboardee answers the question, their contact record updates instantly.
This also means onboardees can update their own details at any time (such as a new address or updated bank details) without needing to contact an admin for a manual change.
How to Link a Field
Go to your Onboarding Step Templates.
Open the step template you want to link.
You'll see a Linked Field dropdown at the bottom of the Field Type section. Select the internal contact field from the drop down you want this step to update. WorkZerk will show you all of the available fields (as shown below).
Save the step template.
That's it. From now on, whenever an onboardee completes this step, the value they provide will be written to the selected field on their contact record.
Important: Each onboarding step can only be linked to one internal field. If you need to collect multiple pieces of information (e.g. BSB and Account Number), you'll need separate step templates for each, each linked to their respective field.

Notifications
Whenever an onboardee updates a linked field, a notification will appear in your Notifications Panel so you can see exactly what changed and when. This will remain there for Admin actions (such as reviewing or verifying) until dismissed.
Bank Detail Warnings
If an onboardee updates any bank-related field — Bank Name, BSB, or Bank Account Number — an additional warning message will appear beneath the notification. This is designed to draw your attention to bank detail changes so you can verify them before processing any payments, helping to protect against errors or fraud.
Please note that any prior compliance actions such as inputting, signing, uploading etc. will not be affected by these linked field updates. In other words, you need to decide whether to revoke prior onboarding compliance actions (such as input) where appropriate - thus the reason for the notification to review this.
Things to Know
One field per step. Each onboarding step template can be linked to one internal contact field. You cannot link multiple fields to a single step.
Linking is manual. It doesn't matter what the step template is named the link is only created when you explicitly select a field from the Linked Field dropdown.
Updates are ongoing. If an onboardee goes back and changes their answer, the contact field will update again. This is by design as it allows people to keep their own details current without admin intervention and reduces errors.
Bank changes are flagged. Any update to Bank Name, BSB, or Bank Account Number triggers a warning on the notification to ensure admins are aware.
